Xiaomi has been an active competitor in the smartphone market lately. The brand launched some stunning phones including the Xiaomi Mi 3 and Xiaomi Mi 4 which were well received by the buyers. Now, the company is all set to turn heads with another device. Xiaomi launched a 4G LTE variant of is Redmi Note phablet in China. Priced at CNY 999 the Xiaomi Redmi Note will cost roughly around 9,900 INR in the Indian market.
The phablet looks sleek and somewhat premium with a glossy finish on the back panel. Extremely slim, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G is sports a chassis which is simple with rounded corners, yet works fine for the phablet. The back panel of the phablet sports a primary camera with flash, minimal Xiaomi branding and a loudspeaker grille. The front is dominated by a 5.5 inch display which is flanked on bottom by three capacitive navigation keys – Options, Home and Back. On the top of the display is the earpiece, ambient light sensor and the front camera. The power button is located in the centre of the right edge which makes it very easy to reach. The volume rockers reside above the power button. The elongated body of the phablet due to its 5.5 inch display makes is significantly easy to handle.
Specs and Features
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G is powered by a quad core Snapdragon 400 CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz. The processor is mated to a 2 GB RAM. A decent processor and RAM ensure smooth run of applications. However, the processor is not as powerful as the one we saw in the 3G only variant. The 3G only variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note is powered by a 1.7 GHz octa core MediaTek MTK6592 SoC. The Redmi Note 4G sports a battery rated at 3100 mAh.
One difference in the two variants is compensated by one similarity. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G sports a similar 13 megapixel rear autofocus camera with LED flash along with a 5 megapixel front facing camera.
Inbuilt memory of 8 GB of the Xiaomi Redmi Note can be extended further up to 64 GB via microSD card expandability.
On the connectivity front, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G covers a lot of features. A special mention must be given to the China specific TDD LTE support on the 1900/2300/1600 MHz bands. Along with this the phablet supports GPRS/EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Micro USB with OTG, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS/A-GPS. A thing to note is the fact that the LTE- bands mentioned above are not supported in all countries.
The phablet sports a 5.5 inch IPS-LCD display with a resolution of 7120x1280 pixels.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G is a single SIM support device and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. The MIUI v5 skin sits on top of the software.
The Redmi Note along with Redmi 1S are anticipated to be available in India by the end of August. The Xiaomi Redmi 1S is an Android jelly Bean smartphone with a 4.7 inch IPS-LCD display.
