5 Common Period Problems And What To Do About Them

Some of the common menstrual problems are Premenstrual Syndrome, too heavy or light periods, cramps, etc.

However, there are several other periods related to problems that can occur? These things happen due to several reasons. Some of them are normal and can be ignored as a symptom but to avoid any critical problem you should visit a gynecologist immediately. 


PMS or Premenstrual Syndrome


Premenstrual Syndrome better is known as PMS happens 7-14 days before your regular periods. Every woman has experienced it at least once in their lifetime. PMS causes a handful of symptoms including:

  • headaches
  • acne
  • certain food cravings
  • anxiety and depression
  • insomnia
  • constipation
  • mild bellyaches

Heavy Flow


Heavy flow is another menstrual problem that some women have to face. It is also called menorrhagia. Heavy  periods also means that the periods last for more than the usual 5-7 days. The main reason behind this is the imbalance of progesterone and estrogen. But other than that some other reasons include:

  • puberty
  • vaginal infections
  • cervix inflammation
  • hypothyroidism
  • fibroids
  • a major change in lifestyle
  • low hemoglobin

Heavy flow is indeed very painful and irritating so if you are facing this problem you should check-up with your doctor.


Irregular Periods


Irregular periods are when a woman doesn't have their periods every month. It also includes late periods that means when a woman doesn't get their first period by the age of 16. Sometimes the situation even gets worse when a woman misses their periods for 6 months or more. This problem is known as amenorrhea in medical terms. Congenital defect of the female reproductive system is one of the key reasons behind this. Delayed puberty could be another one. Some other reasons are:

  • anorexia
  • hyperthyroidism
  • ovarian cysts
  • pregnancy


Period Cramps


Period cramps are one of the most painful things about periods. Light cramps are normal when you are PMSing but cramps, while you are menstruating, is certainly very painful. For some woman the pain is bearable but you must contact your specialist if the pain gets worse and decrease women's health. This situation is called dysmenorrhea. This can happen due to various reasons like:

  • fibroids
  • inflammatory pelvic
  • endometriosis


Smelly Blood


Smelly blood is when the menstruation blood smells very bad during your periods. This happens for many different reasons such as pelvic inflammation, vaginal infections etc. If you think this is something that is disturbing you then you must contact your physician today.
