New
Delhi: After
imposing some severe measures like the night curfew and the weekend curfew, the
Delhi government has now decided to impose a complete lockdown in the national
capital. The lock down will begin from 10PM today and continue till Monday 26th
of April. The lockdown has been imposed due to a record rise in the COVID-19
cases that has critically hampered Delhi's health infrastructure and resources.
The decision was reportedly made after a
meeting between Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor
Anil Baijal that took place on Monday morning. Arvind has been stating that the
rapidly increasing cases have pushed the health infrastructure to the limits in
Delhi. Lack of beds, Oxygen cylinders and Remdesivir in the hospitals of Delhi
have led the health workers astray and out of options to treat the flood of
covid patients that are coming in to the hospitals.
Extremely essential commodities and services such as medical services and food
sectors will continue. All the Gatherings such as weddings and important
meetings can be conducted only with the
maximum capacity of 50 people. A detailed order will be soon issued.
Kejriwal has also urged the migrant
workers to not leave the city as it is just a 6 day lockdown and traveling at
this point of time is meaningless. The Delhi government will use these 6 days
to arrange more beds and oxygen cylinders.
In 2020, Delhi was under lockdown from
March 22nd to May 22 and had reopened further in stages.
