Delhi Capital's Paceman, Anrich Nortje Tests Positive For Covid-19

New Delhi: Delhi Capitals were finalists in the previous edition Indian Premier League, thanks to some heroic performances from their South African fast bowling duo, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje.

It seems that DC will miss out on both their spearheads for IPL 2021 as both test positive for Covid-19. Nortje had returned from Pakistan after the South Africa vs Pakistan ODI series and was supposed to start training from April 14th but now he is in quarantine in his hotel and will continue to do so until notified.

Sources close to him stated that he had tested negative before beginning his quarantine in the hotel but in the second test  found out that he had been positive.

It is interesting to notice that there isn't any confirmation over when Nortje tested positive for the virus. Earlier, there were a lot of reports about KKR's young sensation Nitish Rana and RCB's opening batsmen Devdutt Padikkal testing positive of COVID -19.  Although their  respective franchise later confirmed that their  players had contracted the virus at an earlier date and were now tested negative.

The South African will be a huge miss for the Delhi Capitals as he impressively took 22 wickets and had a great economy rate in the previous IPL edition. Luckily for them his replacement Chris Woakes did put up a decent shift against CSK in their opening fixture of the campaign.

Earlier Delhi Capital's versatile  allrounder Axar Patel also had tested positively and missed out on DC's opening fixture against Chennai Super Kings. Rishabh Pant is the stand-in captain of Delhi Capitals. It will be interesting to see how their campaign goes ahead, playing with such a depleted squad.
