With Joining Of Several Leaders, TMC Has Strengthened Its Base In Tripura
Tripura's Trinamool Congress (TMC), based in West Bengal, has strengthened its base with several leaders.
The party has already begun preparing for the 2023 legislative election. While in the state, Abhishek Banerjee, TMC's national general secretary, will announce the formation of the state committee.
Subal Bhowmik, Prakash Das, Md. Irish Mia, Tapan Dutta, Panna Deb, Premtosh Debnath, and Bikas Das, all former Congress leaders, joined TMC on Wednesday. During the year 2019, these leaders left the BJP and joined the Congress. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, the TMC's women wing president, and Derek O'Brien, the Rajya Sabha party leader, arrived in Agartala.
Agartala police detained 23 members of Prashant Kishor's Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) on the orders of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, Derek O'Brien told the media. They were placed under 'house arrest in a hotel in Agartala.
"The IPAC, led by political strategist Prashant Kishore, is already doing the groundwork in Tripura," a TMC leader told ET. Before this year's West Bengal assembly elections, IPAC had worked for the TMC. There were arrangements made recently for the West Bengal Chief Minister's speech to be televised virtually."
On the other hand, the police refused to let the IPAC team leave until their COVID RTPCR tests were completed. Also, 23 I-PAC members were given notices to appear before the Officer-in-Charge of the East Agartala Police Station on August 1, 2018. The I-PAC members were granted bail by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of West Tripura on Thursday after filing a petition.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Roy has rejoined TMC from the BJP. Mamata Banerjee enjoys a strong support base in Tripura, according to TMC's Tripura state president Ashish Lal Singh. A good organization has developed in the state over time."
According to him, after the TMC's victory in West Bengal, people in Tripura look to the TMC to provide alternatives. So every day, we welcome new members."
Mukul Roy, the TMC's leader in Tripura in 2016, was in charge of the party's affairs there in 2016. At least seven Congress MLAs, led by Sudip Roy Barman, joined TMC under his guidance. As a result, all of them ran in the 2018 assembly polls and won.
BJP-led government-appointed Roy as minister of health. In May 2019, he was removed from the cabinet. Last year, a group of MLAs led by Barman complained to the BJP leadership about how Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb operated.
In Tripura, the BJP and its ally, the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura, swept aside the Left Front. The BJP won 36 seats, the IPFT eight, and the CPI-M 16 in the 60-member Tripura Assembly.
Tripura's TMC party chief says his party's influence in the state has exploded since Mamata Banerjee's landslide victory in Bengal two weeks ago. The TMC chief, he said, will decide whether to accept turncoats from the BJP and the CPI (M) after the party's base grows in the state. Every member of the team is welcome to join us. But Mamata Banerjee will not repay the TMC's humiliators, he said.
