The Indian Government believes that 39 Indians held hostage by ISIS in Iraq are still alive and they have not been as per reports from Press Trust of India. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swarj told Parliament that there are several conflicting reports but they have received confirmation that the 39 Indians held prisoners by ISIS are still alive and there is no point in believing in hearsay and only when plausible evidence is received only then the government will reach a conclusion, till then we are not going to assume anything.
Ms. Sawarj further added that the hopes of getting them released is one of the top priority of this government and she will do her best to ensure they come back to their country safely. All these men were kidnapped back in June when the biggest city in Iraq which is Mosul fell into the hands of ISIS control and most of them belong to the state of Punjab. All the Indians who are being kept prisoners were construction workers.
