Dr Ms Swaminathan And Dr Verghese Kurien Unsung Heroes India

The BJP government announced today that it will confer India’s Highest Civilian Honor the Bharat Ratna to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (Mahamana) founder of Banaras Hindu University. It is totally justified to honor both these men who have contributed so much to our nation. It is very refreshing to see that Mr. Vajpayee will receive this prestigious award while he is still alive because so many leaders have been conferred The Bharat Ratna years after they had passed away (Sarder Patel, B.R. Ambedkar, Abul Kalam Azad)  which is a travesty and one should never play politics. Sadly politics has always played a very sinister role in conferring this award and the government has over many years particularly the congress party suffered from oversight. The nation should be thankful to Madan Mohan Malaviya for his idea and philosophy and the great leadership he bestow upon us during our struggle for freedom.

But two men who have received many awards and recognition have still not been honored by Bharat Ratana and it is the father of India’s Green Revolution Dr M.S. Swaminathan and Dr. Verghese Kurien father of White revolution (Operation Flood & Amul) which has helped provide jobs and business opportunity for tens and thousands of people. Dr M.S. Swaminathan is responsible for making sure millions of Indians have access to food and end dependency from foreign food aid and gave the Indian agriculture the push that it so badly needed which helped eradicate famine like situations in India. And Dr. Verghese Kurien made sure milk and dairy products are available for all of India. Sadly Dr. Kurien passed away in September 2012 but it is still not too late to honor these men with India’s highest civilian award.

No one can take anything from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya for their achievements in both social and political spectrum but Dr M.S. Swaminathan and Dr. Verghese Kurien also deserve this award more than say Sachin Tendulkar which could be blasphemy. All the men mentioned have achieved greatness in the field of politics, social work, sports and science, but the Bharat Ratna are conferred after long and distinguished career spanning decades. But these two stalwarts of science and social development must also not be forgotten.

Uthestory.com congratulates Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for becoming the first non congress leader to successfully complete a full term of office and salute Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya for his outstanding service in the field of education, social awareness, journalism and reminding us Satyamev Jayate.
