Adnan Shukrijumah the 39 year old head of Al Qaeda global operations has been killed by the Pakistan army as per latest report from Associated Press. If this information is true then this would be a serious blow to Al Qaeda which is already floundering after America has systematically killed and dismantled its terror networks all over the world. Adnan Shukrijumah carried a reward of 5 million dollars bounty for his capture and was regarded as one of the most dangerous person who wanted to bring death and destruction to America.
If the reports are to be true and America’s domestic intelligence agency the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) verifies the findings of the Pakistan army’s claim, then the death of a major Al Qaeda operative could prove to be huge scoring point for Pakistan to build support for itself in America. In the last six months with a new government taking helm in India and also making significant progress in US India relationship, this incident could tilt the generosity of America towards a disparate Pakistan which is right now in the mix of social, political and economic turmoil.
However any turn around Pakistan may expect would not be immediate since it is still sponsoring unbridled terrorist activities to India. The latest being the terror attack in Kashmir which has resulted in the death of eleven security personals and civilians on the eve of the visit of Indian Prime Minister’s visit to this region. Killing Adnan Shukrijumah is not a big achievement but going after other terrorists like Hafiz Saeed who was the Mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai attack is more important. Killing an elusive leader of a disheveled terror group like AL Qaeda has no significance until Pakistan acts against all terror groups.
