Hafiz Saeed, 26/11 mastermind is arrested from Lahore
The mastermind of Mumbai terror attacks Jammaat ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed was arrested in Gujranwala, Pakistan by the Counter Terrorism Department, Punjab, Pakistan police.
Jammaat ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed and Mumbai terror attacks mastermind was arrested in Gujranwala, Pakistan. He was arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department, Punjab, Pakistan police while he was travelling to Lahore to appear before court. Hafiz Saeed has been sent on judicial remand.
A spokesman has confirmed that he has been arrested and said the charges are still unknown but are linked to terrorism financing. On Monday, Hafiz Saeed with three of his aides were given pre-arrest bail by the anti-terrorism court in Pakistan against a JuD’s illicit use of land for a seminary. Last week, Pakistani Government had broadcasted a crackdown on terror financing by the LeT, Lashkar-e-Taiba and its front organizations. The authorities said that the cases were registered against Lashkar founder Hafiz Saeed and twelve of his aides.
India is not impressed by claims of Pakistan and said that the action of terror financing is looking like an effort to trick or dupe the international community. Raveesh Kumar, foreign ministry spokesperson said that we are not getting fooled by these steps. We have also seen these convictions in the past several times.
Hafiz Saeed’s supremo of JuD is believed as a head of Lashkar, that is responsible for the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. Lashkar-e-Taiba is declared as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States. He was declared a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the United States treasury department. The award of $10 million was kept for the person who will provide for any information and brings him to justice. Washington had also warned Islamabad of “repercussions” after he got released from house arrest in the year 2017.
India has given many dossiers to Pakistan describing the role of Lakshar and Hafiz Saeed in the Mumbai attacks. Islamabad has added that Saeed had been cleared by courts in Pakistan and India requires to provide more evidence.
