Obama gathers allies to destroy ISIS

This is perhaps the most sensible move the United States Government under President Obama has made in a long time to go after the Islamic State with allies.  Speaking at a NATO summit, Obama said the United States would also try to involve Middle Eastern allies in a strategy to counter the jihadists, who have overrun large swathes of territory according to Press Trust of India.

Over the last two weeks Obama was criticized when he said his administration did not have a definite plan to tackle the IS. But with allies on board this would send chill down the spine of IS leadership, because in a very short period of time the forces led by America will seek retribution for the brutal killing of two American journalists.

Also China and Russia have maintained a tacit silence with regards to this latest decision taken by NATO when all its members met for a summit in Wales, which clearly means they have no problem and approve all actions against IS.

Mr. Obama at a news conference said “You initially push them back, you systematically degrade their capabilities, you narrow their scope of action, you slowly shrink the space, the territory that they may control, you take out their leadership." "And over time, they are not able to conduct the same kinds of terrorist attacks as they once could."

Also he made another statement which should give the Pakistan Military and its notorious intelligence Agency ISI a moment of pause, Mr. Obama said “we are going to degrade and ultimately defeat ISIL, the same way that we have gone after al-Qaida." Also what this comment could mean is, the US is still determined to capture or kill Ayman al-Zawhiri who is perhaps the last surviving member of the 9/11 attacks in 2001 in New York.

Though has faced backlash for his indecision in this matter but one must also understand that jumping into this conflict unilaterally would have been a terrible mistake which his predecessor had done. Brian Katulis, a national security expert with the Center for American Progress, a research organization said "Getting sucked deeply back into another set of violent conflicts in the Middle East runs against the grain and the very DNA of this administration" he further added "But the stunning actions by ISIS this summer has been a wake-up call." What it means is America and its allies in the Middle East must also involve the Sunni populations in Syria and Iraq in order to take down IS.
