The circle of gun violence in the American school continued today when a student opened fire in a school cafeteria, killing one student and critically injuring four others before taking his own life, police said. The shooting occurred yesterday in the cafeteria of Marysville-Pilchuck High School, 55km north of Seattle in Washington State according to Press Trust of India.
The shoot was carried out by Jaylen Fryberg the 14 year old student gunmen responsible for killing two of his fellow students and seriously injuring two more before turning the gun on himself and dying as a result of self infected gunshot wound.
This year alone there have been more than three dozen gun related violence which has occurred all across America and there is still two more months to go. It is amazing when two words like student and gunmen has become the daily landscape of American schools. This is perhaps the most unfortunate use of oxymoron that juxtaposes words which are contradictory in nature.
Police are still investigating the probable cause of this incident and more details will emerge later, but the most important thing to remember, are the victims. Those who have sadly lost their lives and those who are fighting for their lives. But on sadly fourteen your old Gia Soriano succumbed to her injuries afterwards.
School administrators at Marysville-Pilchuck High School announced that the high school will remain closed during the weekend and throughout next week to respect the students and families affected by the tragedy.
What will be more interesting will be how the American Rifle Association or the NRA will react to this latest incident which could have been averted with better control our the use of hand guns in America because Washington state has a “C” rating when it comes to gun control according to Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
